ACEN has approved a short-term loan of $510,200 (PHP30 million) to Pagudpud Wind Power Corp. The loan agreement was executed last week, according to a company disclosure. Pagudpud Wind Power Corp. is developing a 160-megawatt wind farm in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. This will be ACEN’s third wind project in the province. Once completed, it is expected to be the largest wind farm in the Philippines. The project is being built in phases.
The first phase was completed in 2023. Construction of the second phase is ongoing. Pagudpud Wind Power secured a long-term market through the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program. The auction took place in June 2022.
In addition to the Pagudpud wind farm, other renewable energy projects are in development across the Philippines. San Marcelino Solar Farm in Zambales is being developed by SP New Energy Corp. with a planned capacity of over 500 megawatts. The Mindoro Hybrid Power Plant combines solar, battery storage, and diesel generation to provide electricity to the island. In Bukidnon, a run-of-river hydropower facility is being developed to harness the region’s water resources for electricity.
Other regions in the Philippines have also started developing wind projects. The Pililla Wind Farm in Rizal has a capacity of 54 megawatts and provides power to the Luzon grid. The San Lorenzo Wind Farm in Guimaras, with a capacity of 54 megawatts, was one of the first wind farms in the Visayas region. Another wind project in Guimaras, the Sibunag Wind Farm, is being considered as part of the province’s renewable energy expansion.
The province of Guimaras is working on expanding its wind energy capacity to support local energy needs. These projects are part of the broader renewable energy developments in the country as the Philippine government works toward increasing the share of renewable energy in the national power mix.
