Alternergy Holdings Corporation has acquired full ownership of the Tablas Strait Offshore Wind Power Corporation from Shell Overseas Investment B.V. Through its subsidiary, Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation (AWHC), the company now holds complete control over the development of three offshore wind projects located in the Tablas Strait, a body of water between the islands of Mindoro and Panay in the Philippines.
This acquisition is part of Alternergy’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its position in the renewable energy sector. The Tablas Strait projects will contribute to the company’s goal of achieving 500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity by 2026. With full control over these projects, Alternergy is looking to accelerate development and move forward with pre-development activities.
A feasibility study recently confirmed the viability of the Tablas offshore wind projects, providing confidence to Alternergy as it prepares for the next stages. Knud Hedeager, President of AWHC, emphasized that owning these projects outright will allow for a faster and more efficient development process.
Alternergy plans to proceed with the necessary steps, which will likely include site preparation, environmental assessments, and engineering studies. The company also intends to explore potential partnerships with third parties to help advance the projects. These partnerships could include collaborations with other energy companies, investors, or technical firms to ensure the successful delivery of the projects.
The three offshore wind sites in the Tablas Strait are expected to play a role in the Philippines’ renewable energy goals. Alternergy’s move to fully control these projects highlights the growing involvement of the Philippines’ in renewable energy sector, positioning the company to contribute to the nation’s energy transition.
