HEXA Renewables, in collaboration with Ciel & Terre Taiwan, has successfully completed the expansion phase of the floating solar project within the Changbin industrial zone. This significant addition, totaling approximately 192.3 megawatts-peak, further enhances the renewable energy landscape in the region.
The project, known as Changbin #3 and #4 extensions, commenced construction in October 2022 and achieved commercial operation status by October 2023. The project is spread over 171 hectares of water surface area, these extensions represent a remarkable feat in harnessing solar energy amidst the dynamic coastal environment characterized by bi-daily tidal changes and occasional typhoons.
Addressing the complexities inherent in floating photovoltaic (FPV) installations, Ciel & Terre emphasized meticulous design considerations tailored to withstand the challenging marine conditions. This approach underscores their commitment to ensuring the resilience and longevity of the project infrastructure.
The Changbin floating solar initiative, initially launched in 2020, has already demonstrated impressive results. With an estimated annual electricity generation of around 260 gigawatt hours, it significantly contributes to meeting the energy demands of approximately 65,000 households. Furthermore, the project’s environmental impact is noteworthy, leading to an annual reduction of approximately 138,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
This successful collaboration between HEXA Renewables and Ciel & Terre Taiwan not only signifies a milestone in renewable energy deployment but also sets a precedent for innovative solutions tailored to the unique challenges of coastal regions. As the global community increasingly prioritizes sustainable energy transitions, initiatives like the Changbin floating solar project serve as shining examples of effective and scalable renewable energy solutions.
