Malaysian based firm JLand Group (JLG), Johor Corporation’s real estate firm, and Cenergi SEA Berhad, a subsidiary of UEM Group, have signed a pact to invest US$29m (RM 140m) to install rooftop solar and energy efficiency to power Johor industrial parks.
The firm said that with this joint venture, commercial and industrial consumers in 11,069-acre JLG industrial parks in Johor will get the benefit. The two firms will undertake investments, installations, operations, and maintenance of rooftop solar and energy efficiency solutions, said the statement.
“The first phase of the investments is expected to contribute about 13,000 MWh green electricity generation and 8,000 tons of carbon emission reduction per year by the consumers,” said the firm.
The rooftop solar systems will be developed under Net Energy Metering (NEM) and Self-Consumption (SELCO) schemes, which are amongst the initiatives by the Government to achieve the target of 31% Renewable Energy (RE) in the national energy mix by 2025.
The statement said that the industrial clusters, especially those involved in heavy industries are known to account for a significant portion of global carbon dioxide emissions, thereby resulting in growing efforts for industrial players to implement emission reductions.
