In a bid to bolster its commitment to sustainable development, the Malaysian real estate mogul IJM Land Bhd has entered into a strategic partnership with Solar energy solution company Progressture Power Sdn Bhd (Progressture Solar) to explore new opportunities in solar energy. This collaboration aims to deploy a total capacity of 40-megawatt peak (MWp) across IJM Land’s upcoming projects.
The memorandum of understanding between IJM Land and Progressture Solar focuses on integrating solar energy solutions into residential and commercial developments. Specifically, it includes pre-installing solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems with a capacity of 25 MWp for residential properties. Additionally, the partnership plans to develop a 15 MWp floating solar farm over 37.5 acres at IJM Rimbayu.
This ambitious solar deployment initiative is projected to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, amounting to 40,997 tonnes annually and over one million tonnes over the next 25 years.
IJM Land’s CEO, Datuk Wong Tuck Wai, emphasised the strategic importance of merging real estate with renewable energy. He highlighted that this collaboration aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap, underscoring consumers’ role in shaping the future of energy consumption.
The COO of IJM Land, Datuk Tony Ling Thou Lung, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of overcoming barriers to solar adoption such as space constraints and high costs. He expressed confidence that leveraging residential rooftops and lake surfaces will facilitate broader solar integration among homeowners.
Progressture Solar, known for its expertise in solar PV solutions, sees this partnership as a pivotal step towards advancing renewable energy practices in the real estate sector. Co-founder and CEO, Cliff Siaw Sze Hau, emphasised their commitment to employing cutting-edge technologies for optimized energy yields.
The collaboration will also introduce an Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) approach, offering end-to-end management of energy assets and services for homeowners within IJM Land’s townships. This model, expected to become increasingly prevalent globally, reflects a growing trend towards integrated energy solutions.
The partnership’s operationalisation will coincide with Malaysia’s plans to liberalise its electricity supply industry, enhancing accessibility for independent power producers.
