MSpectrum, Inc., a subsidiary of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has completed the installation of a rooftop solar facility for General Trias Water Corporation (GTWC) in Cavite, Philippines. The project has a capacity of 33 kilowatt-peak (kWp) and is expected to produce around 45,350 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually. This solar energy will power GTWC’s water pumps, making it the first water utility in the area to adopt solar energy for its operations.
In addition to supplying renewable energy, the project is expected to bring environmental benefits. MSpectrum estimates that the facility will reduce carbon emissions by 32.3 metric tonnes annually. This reduction is equivalent to planting over 1,400 trees or cutting down vehicle travel by more than 79,000 kilometers per year. The solar rooftop is part of GTWC’s initiative to lower operational costs through energy savings while reducing its environmental footprint.
MSpectrum has been active in the solar energy sector for eight years. The company reports that it has installed over 80 megawatts (MW) of rooftop solar projects across the Philippines. These installations are estimated to provide power to approximately 40,000 households, showcasing the increasing adoption of renewable energy in various sectors.
Renewable energy projects are steadily growing in the Philippines as the country works to diversify its energy sources. Recent projects include the Alaminos Solar Farm in Laguna, a 120 MW facility operational since 2021, which incorporates battery storage to stabilize the grid. Another is the 150 MW solar farm in Tarlac, managed by Solar Philippines Tarlac Corporation, which has been operational since 2019 and is one of the largest in Southeast Asia. The Batangas Solar Facility, with a capacity of 100 MW, became operational in 2022 and supplies power to the Luzon grid. Wind energy has also seen growth, such as the Burgos Wind Farm in Ilocos Norte, which has been running since 2014 with a capacity of 150 MW.MSpectrum, Inc.
