Danish utility and global offshore wind leader Ørsted has declared that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vietnamese energy contractor PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C). This partnership will pave the way for a collaboration for the development of offshore wind projects in Vietnam and globally between the two companies.
The officials statement says that the MoU brings together 30 years of experience of Ørsted of developing, building and operating offshore wind farms. PTSC M&C claims to have a strong expertise and track record in the development of energy infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region. The MoU was signed in a ceremony held at PTSC M&C’s manufacturing facility in Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu.
The companies said that the partnership will establish robust offshore substations for the proposed multi-Gigawatt offshore wind projects of Ørsted and T&T, a leading Vietnamese cross-industry company. These projects are meant to supply clean power to Vietnam. The two will also work on global renewable projects.
Ørsted and T&T Group have been collaborating with many local partners and suppliers for the development of the first flagship offshore wind projects in Vietnam. The key target is to deliver one project in the central south and one in the north by 2030.
Sebastian Hald Buhl, Country Manager of Ørsted Vietnam, said, “Ørsted is ready to support Vietnam to unleash its full offshore wind potential. Vietnam has some of the best conditions in Asia for offshore wind power, many outstanding engineering companies and a highly skilled workforce. Today’s inaugural agreement between Ørsted and PTSC M&C demonstrates another step forward in our ambitions to collaborate closely with local suppliers to kick-start Vietnam’s new offshore wind industry.”
Dong Xuan Thang, PTSC M&C’s Managing Director, said, “The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding with Ørsted will play a very important role for PTSC M&C to develop its capacities for offshore wind market which is growing in Asia as well as other countries around the world”.
Pascal Langeais, Head of APAC Procurement & Supply Chain, Ørsted, mentioned, “Today’s MOU affirms Ørsted’s commitment to develop and collaborate with PTSC M&C in the years ahead. It announces the beginning of a great journey between our two companies to produce reliable, large-scale green energy together.”
