Starting November, Japanese tech giant Panasonic is set to launch a modified version of its Aquarea air-to-water heat pumps with new energy management solutions in commercial and multi-residential buildings. Panasonic will install Balance smart thermostats and the Heat Pump Optimizer X system by German-based Tado on its heat pumps.
The new integrated solution would be managed through an application, Panasonic said. An application allows users to make adjustments on heat pump settings for higher efficiency. It matches peak electricity use with times when renewable energy is available, and costs are lower.
The smart thermostats can automatically identify when the heat pump may be activated at the cheapest time. To users with solar panels, it uses local weather forecasts to activate heat pumps during the times when the solar energy would have been in use. It can also identify the warmest part of the day when heating of water would take the shortest time.
Tado claims that “its Balance solution can save homeowners up to 38% of cost on their energy usage. The Heat Pump Optimizer X performs an accurate temperature reading and then estimates what the ideal amount of heating should be.”
Panasonic’s Aquarea M Series R290 heat pumps will be available in a wide range of sizes, from 3kW to 30kW, with R290 as the refrigerant. The heat pumps equipped with Tado’s control systems for rooms will be hit several European markets this fall.
Panasonic Heating and Cooling Solutions will offer solutions through its respective sales channels. Smart energy management is one example of integration, which Panasonic uses to explain a switch toward smarter and more efficient heating.
