SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP), a collaboration between Aboitiz Power Corp. and Norwegian firm Scatec, has an ambitious plan to expand its renewable energy portfolio beyond hydroelectric power.
CEO Joseph Yu said that the firm aims to increase its solar capacity by 1,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030. He disclosed that the firm has a target towards both in floating and land-based solar projects. Solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity will act as a complementary addition to their hydropower profile, he noted.
It may be noted that SNAP presently has in its portfolio hydroelectric plants, including a 200-kilowatt (kW) floating solar project, Yu plans to increase its floating solar initiative to 10 to 60 MW pending a final investment decision in 2024.
As per the firm, it is exploring floating solar opportunities in Benguet and ventures into battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, emphasizing the importance of ensuring market viability before construction begins.
SNAP began the 24-MW Magat BESS project, last year and is has three more BESS projects in the pipeline with a total capacity of 100 MW across facilities in Isabela and Benguet.
