SEG Solar, a US-based solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturer, indicates that it has started construction of an integrated PV industrial park in the Central Java province of Indonesia. In the Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang (KITB) region, this will be the largest integrated industrial park for solar PV manufacturing in the country. Ultimately, the facility will house an annual production capacity for silicon ingots, wafers, cells, and modules of 5 GW.
The setup of 10 production lines for N-type cells will include the first phase of the project, with SEG expecting the output from these lines to reach 5GW annually by the second quarter of 2025. SEG will also enter collaborations with other suppliers of photovoltaic components, such as wafers, junction boxes and frames to set up facilities in Indonesia. The idea is to create a complete photovoltaic value chain in the region.
The groundbreaking session included the officials of the Indonesian government, local authorities, and SEG Solar. Critical speakers were Michael Eden, General Counsel of SEG, and Ngurah Wirawan, President Director of KITB, who explained why this project was essential for Indonesia in reducing carbon emissions besides developing the green industry.
Said Michael Eden, “It’s part of SEG’s global strategy as part of that global strategy.” He pointed that out, saying that the products manufactured in Indonesia also support the country’s efforts toward carbon reduction, and that by using these products, SEG also ensures supply to its factory in Houston, US
Ngurah Wirawan underscored that the industrial park will play a determining role in transforming the green industry both in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia as a whole. L
