The Singaporean Interior Ministry’s headquarters hosted the first strategic discussion between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Singapore.
The Secretary General of the Oman National Security Council, Major General Idris bin Abdulrahman Alkindi, and the Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, led the Omani side. Dr. Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, and K. Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, led the Singaporean delegation.
The two sides reaffirmed their strong friendship and shared ambition to improve ties between Singapore and Oman to further their mutual interests.
The two sides decided to upgrade the general consulates in both countries to resident embassies on January 1st of next year to increase the level of diplomatic representation between them as a reflection of the improvement in ties between the two nations.
The discussions of economic, investment, and cultural cooperation, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, transportation, food security, and logistics, were also examined. These discussions took place in the bilateral and security working groups. They also talked about improving their collaboration in the area of maritime security.
Oman and Singapore signed two memorandums of the agreement after the dialogue session, the first in the area of information technology and the second in the area of fish farming and aquaculture.
