Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG), the Association of Singapore Marine & Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI), and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have signed a memorandum of understanding connecting the country with the rest of the world in the global offshore wind sector. The strategic collaboration puts Singapore on track to capture a share of an industry tipped to grow by more than 20% from 2022 to 2030.
Under the MOU, joint efforts would be undertaken to grow the offshore wind ecosystem and accelerate innovation through encouraging collaboration in policy development, network building, knowledge sharing, and supply chain capabilities. All these will serve to bring forth Singapore’s global position in offshore wind.
Assistant Managing Director of EnterpriseSG Johnny Teo highlighted the opportunities in green growth. “Enterprise Singapore commits to enabling Singapore companies to tap on green growth opportunities like offshore wind to grow our economy and create good jobs,” he said. Efforts would now be sprung by leaps and bounds in leveraging Singapore’s growing offshore wind ecosystem.
Stewart Mullin, Chief Industry Officer at GWEC said: “Singapore uniquely finds itself in a strategic position and plays a key role in the region’s ecosystem. We look forward to developing international partnerships between stakeholders from across the offshore wind sector.”.
Such an agreement would benefit about 100 Singapore businesses and 150 GWEC members when the activities are rolled out over the next two years. This partnership will create greater opportunities for companies to be involved in a rapidly expanding offshore wind industry.
An MOU of this kind is prima facie, an indicator that the country is not leaving on the backburner the kind of global change in the use of sustainable energy solutions that it should be participating in.
