South Korean IT service provider, Kakao Corporation, has joined RE100 climate group, which is the global corporate renewable energy initiative committed to 100% renewable electricity by 2040.
In its statement, the firm states that it plans to increase renewable energy utilisation for the operation of new internet data centers (IDCs) and headquarters. It has plans to use 60 percent renewable energy by 2030, making it to 100 percent a decade later. To this end, Kakao will establish an advisory panel comprising professionals from various fields to promote the social value of carbon neutrality.
Last year, it completed transition to eco-friendly solar energy at its HQ for electricity usage in Jejudo, achieving a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts.
Globally, more and more IT firms are embracing committments to renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions, move towards net zero goals and save big on electricity bills.
