Vietnam-based manufacturer of starch, Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd (Hiep Phat) has joined forces with TotalEnergies for the establishment of a 2.1 MWp solar system. The ground-mounted solar and agri-PV project will be set up at the agricultural firm’s unit in Tay Ninh as well as office facilities. The solar project will help Hiep Phat meet 20% of its energy needs.
The project will boast more than 3,600 solar panels. It is expected to produce about 3,250 MWh of renewable electricity every year. With this initiative, Hiep Phat will be able to make savings while also cutting yearly carbon emissions by close to 2,200 tons of CO2 . This is the equivalent of planting more than 33,000 trees. Hiep Phat will also be growing crops under the panels. It will undertake the cultivation of food herbs and organic chicken farming.
As per the terms of the agreement, which has been signed for a period of twenty years, TotalEnergies will look into the financing, installation, and management of the PV system.
The idea of agriPV is gathering steam all over the world as it address the challenge of land scarcity and also shades crops planted under the panels.
