For green energy in Malaysia, Zecon Bhd. is making extensive plans. This Kota Petra Masterplan includes 3000 acres of potential solar farms and other green energy projects. It shows that the nationwide push towards more use of renewable resources has been taken seriously.
According to Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, their managing director, they are currently discussing with various bodies as well as technology companies such as Huawei Technologies among others on how best they can work together for a possible solar project at Sarawak or Sabah. Last year August saw them sign an MOU with Neuto Energy Sdn Bhd which is a renewable energy tech firm so that both these organizations can engage jointly in large-scale solar projects.
However, Zecon’s vision does not stop here; the company also has its eyes set on digital transformation programmes like setting up tech parks and data centers in line with 2030 being the year when Sarawak aims to become among the world’s leading digital economies.
Recently though, this firm entered into a partnership with Sarawak Digital Economy Corp Bhd where they will be looking at creating integrated urban development alongside industries under the Kota Petra Masterplan which range from the logistics industry down to green energy thus creating a smart city ecosystem.
To finance these bold moves, Zecon managed to raise RM815.94 million through facilities provided by Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad last month (February 2024). Most of this capital is expected to fund forthcoming projects like Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Children’s Specialist Hospital located in Bandar Tun Razak – Cheras, Selangor which are currently under Zecon Medicare Sdn Bhd management.
Ultimately Zecon is preparing for an eventful year ahead with concentration being put more towards green power generation, digital innovation hubs construction and other related infrastructure development works within Malaysia
